We all want what we can’t have. Maybe you were born with that treacherous fine-hair gene, or maybe your locks won’t grow past your collarbone no matter how many prayers you say and gummy vitamins you take. You know what it’s like – seeing that Instagram girl with waist-length natural hair and wondering why you weren’t equally as blessed. There is no envy that burns quite as bright, but more often than not, that envy points to one thing: hair extensions.

There’s nothing quite as satisfying for a girl with thin hair as opening a perfectly packaged box of hair extensions. Not a hair is out of place, not a split end in sight. It’s actually a miracle, if you think about it – the ability to go from that adorable lob to waist-length locks in just a few moments. Who cares if it’s not natural? With any one of these effortless hair styles with hair extensions, your new 'do will look as if you got it from your momma (and not a box).

How To Wear Hair Extensions - 30 Looks

What You'll Need:
  • Clip-In hair extensions
  • Butterfly clamps (or any large hair clips) to section hair
  • Paddle brush
  • Dry shampoo
  • Teasing comb

Before styling hair extensions, it’s important to prep your locks to ensure your style lasts all day or night. Start with clean hair – if it’s blow-dried, that’s even better to give it more volume. Clip your hair into four equal sections from top to bottom with the butterfly clips. At each section, spritz dry shampoo at the roots to give your locks some texture. Then, tease a little at the roots to give the clips something to hold onto. (This is especially important if you have straight, silky hair.) Before clipping them in, be sure to run through the extensions with a paddle brush.

When you are ready to clip them in, start with the middle-most clips and line them up with the middle of your head and work outward to ensure they are as tight as possible. Once you’ve worked your way up to the roots, you can start styling one of these 30 effortless looks!

Where To Buy Hair Extensions

Even if your research on hair extensions is the sum of one Google search, you’ll quickly learn that there are a lot of cooks in the kitchen. Each and every brand will try to sell you on their product, but there are few that actually follow through with their sugar-coated promises.

There are a few things to keep in mind: quality is everything. If there is a hefty price tag on the extensions, don’t be turned away right off the bat. As a matter of fact, it’s a red flag for clip-ins to be on the cheaper end. You won’t have any trouble finding inexpensive extensions, but they will likely be made out of synthetic materials that look nothing like human hair. And if the extensions are cheap and advertised as human hair, they will likely be thin, straggly, and low quality.
