Everything takes longer in the winter. From putting on too many layers of clothes to taking all those extra minutes to get to work because of snow, you don’t have time to waste with your hair. Try any of these fifteen low maintenance winter hairstyles, and we promise no one will know it only took you 10 minutes to look that good!
This one’s timeless, and perfect for any season, honestly. But we had to include it in this guide because of its versatility and ability to be worn with ear muffs or a headband. No need to smush your perfectly-messy bun with a winter hat. Oh, and it's super easy to create the perfect messy bun.
Slicked Back Pony
Whether you’re going to work out, chill at home or enjoy a night on the town, the slicked back pony is extremely easy to style and keeps hair out of your face. Just use a bit of smoothing serum around the hairline, use a boar bristle brush to smooth out bumps and pull into a hair tie (or two if you’ve got really thick locks). Then, spray to tame flyaways.
This trendy take on braids is perfect for winter. You can easily slip a hat on and off without messing with the do’, and it looks adorable with a big sweater and leggings.

These piecey curls are supposed to look messy, so it doesn't matter if you're walking through a snowstorm or sitting by the fire, they'll hold up and look great either way. Achieve Becca’s look with a curling iron and one-inch sections, curling away from the face, being sure to leave the bottom two inches straight.

Half-up High Pony
Revamp second-day curls by teasing the crown and throwing top layers into a high pony. It keeps hair out of your face but still shows off the soft, feminine curls.

Braid with Short Hair
This loose braid pairs perfectly with natural waves, so you don’t need to take the extra time to run heat through it. Just braid the front pieces, pin back, spritz a little hairspray, and you’re good to go.

Teased Low Pony
This few-step style takes minutes. Just comb through hair, lightly tease the crown, and pull back into a low pony. Be sure to keep the pony loose so you can pull out face-framing pieces.
If you want the hair-wrapped pony like the one in this photo, take a one-inch strand from underneath once you’ve tied the hair back. Then wrap it around the hair tie until you have about an inch left of hair – tuck the ends into the hair tie and spritz with hairspray to secure.

Short Hair with Waves
When your hair’s this length, it holds volume better than longer, heavier locks. So, all you have to do is take a curling iron (1.25 inch or bigger), wrap sections of the hair for about 5 seconds, and set with a flexible-hold hairspray. It takes 10 to 15 minutes, flat.
This trend has been on fire for a while now, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere, especially this winter. With its playful look, it pairs so well with cozy sweaters, or it can be dressed up for a date night.

Loose, Low Bun
While styling this bun only takes minutes, it’s chic and can be worn for any occasion. Simply pull hair into a low pony, twist into a bun, and pin into place.
The classic flat ironed do is still in this winter and doesn’t take much styling at all. With super-straight ends and a middle part, you’ll look fierce in these colder months.

Our readers have a love-hate relationship with this style. Love because it’s adorable, plastered all over Instagram and channels our inner playful, yet fierce side. Hate because sometimes it can be hard to replicate.
Side note: don’t feel like you have to go all out if you’ve never tried this daring look before. There are alternative styles inspired by this edgy do – like styling your hair half up and half down with loose buns or creating two lower loose buns.
High Pony Braid
This knock out style typically works best for ladies with longer, thicker hair. We are absolutely obsessed with this trend.
Who says you have to do anything with your hair for it to look good? You won’t need anything more than a bit of volumizing mousse and shine serum. Just scrunch hair and let it air dry for a casual, natural look like this one.
PS - if you want to achieve this natural look but are rolling your eyes at us because your hair falls flat the second you walk out the door, we totally understand. Try the following:
- Dry shampoo, dry shampoo, dry shampoo. We can't stress it enough – this stuff is a game changer and triples as a volumizer, oil absorber, and texturizer.
- Run a few curls through it. The key word here is few. Take a larger barrel and wrap face-framing pieces – but only for a few seconds. Then run your fingers through it to create that carefree look.
